The Chief Executive Officer of Danmarna Petroleum and Board of Trustees (BoT) member of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Dahiru Usman Sarki, has expressed optimism that the newly elected leadership of the association in Katsina State will contribute significantly to easing the supply and pricing of petrol in the state.
Speaking on the outcome of the election, Alhaji Sarki emphasized that unity among members was instrumental in ensuring a smooth electoral process without opposition. He stated, “Collaboration fosters progress, and the peaceful conduct of the leadership election among petroleum marketers reflects the harmony and brotherhood within the association.”
Alhaji Sarki noted that this was the first time in nearly 20 years that an internal election had been conducted within the association. He recalled that in the past, decisions regarding leadership positions were made through consultations with elders and stakeholders. “Back then, our leaders collectively agreed to appoint Alhaji Abbas Hamza as the chairman, and we continued to operate under that arrangement. However, with evolving times, we deemed it necessary to expand participation and conduct elections across the entire Katsina State,” he explained.
He highlighted the massive turnout of stakeholders from within and outside the state who witnessed the swearing-in ceremony, underscoring the credibility and acceptance of the process.
The Danmarna Petroleum chairman also stressed the need for modernization within the association. According to him, the adoption of advanced technologies such as computerization and digital systems will enhance efficiency and accountability in operations. “We recognize that the world is advancing rapidly, and for IPMAN to remain relevant, we must integrate modern tools and best practices into our activities,” he stated.
On the selection of the new leadership, Alhaji Sarki emphasized that competence and integrity were the key criteria. He clarified that the newly elected chairman did not actively seek the position but was chosen based on his track record, good character, and progressive vision for the association. “We identified him as the most suitable candidate, and when he eventually declared his intention to contest, there was unanimous support because everyone knew his credibility and commitment. That is why the election was conducted without any dispute,” he added.
The inauguration ceremony for the new IPMAN executives in Katsina State was held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the Aldusar Park and Zoo Conference Hall, located along Musa Yar’adua Road in Katsina City. The event brought together prominent business figures, petroleum marketers, and stakeholders from within and beyond the state, all of whom witnessed the swearing-in of the newly elected officials.
Alhaji Aminu Wali, the CEO of A’A Rahamawa Petroleum, emerged as the chairman of the association, with key officials representing the Funtua and Daura senatorial zones serving as his deputies. Additionally, Alhaji Lolo Dakare and Alhaji Abdun Malam were appointed as national trustees of the association.
With the new leadership in place, expectations are high that the association will embark on reforms aimed at ensuring a more stable and transparent petroleum distribution system in Katsina State.
